This EA is ECN-safe. You can freely use
this expert advisor with
ECN (
market
execution) brokers as it either does not apply any stop-loss and
take-profit levels in its trading orders or sends only pending orders.
I would never buy an EA based upon 4 years of backtesting alone. There
must be live data to support the backtests and reasoning behind why it
doesn't work in the past. (Be it martingale, trend vs range, etc etc).

Equity curve
A graphical representation of the change in value of a trading account over a time period. An equity curve with a consistently positive slope would generally indicate that the trading strategies of the account are profitable, while a negative slope would indicate that the account is in the red.

Hi All,
I'm curious about your opinions.
Which EA would you
prefer (buy it and use it), that survives 13 years backtest, or which
would not survive 13 years, but works on todays market (i.e. last 4
years).
There are some EAs which look good in 13 years BT, but doesn't work in real life.

The answer is simple. I would take the EA with 13 years of good back test. (Thinking backtest included up to today).
Buy I am expert/professional in Back test... so the BT would need to qualify to what I know.
1.
The strategy should be
mathematical and
not based in any
indicators.
Indicators based logics EAs are "ALL" Curve fitted to the past data.
Therefore the logic will not work in the future, as the prices will
never be the same.
2. The BT should done with
tick data,
preferably in
non-mt4 tester/platform. Also no gaps in the data, nor
spikes taken out of it, etc. . (well practiced by EA sellers)
3. The strategy should use no
less then 25 pips of TP or SL, or work by global closings.
4. One setting for all years tested.
5.
Test should include
at least 2 different "start" dates per year.. for
example .. runs once from Jan to dec... and another from july to july,
etc.
6. All time
Max DD never higher then twice the average of
monthly profit. For example, if the EA pulls average of 5% per month
average in the 13 years .. max DD should never be more then 10% in the
13 years.
7. Backtest done with
fixed lot for all 13 years ( no money management increases)
8. 1% per month deducted from monthly average results. Example.. if average is 5% per month, I deduct
1% for slippage, higher spreads etc. Is
never that much but being conservative.
For me .. all the above means the EA has survived.
With a few idea of the strategy logic itself and tested under above conditions... no problem trusting the code.
(
after reviewing the code itself for standard safety features to auto
trading.. like self starting if mt4 goes down, internet/vps
disconnections, etc, etc.)
J.
visual backtest of 1-2 years would tell you 1000 times more about the
strategy/tradng style than any 13 years test can ever do..... just run
the toughest period the ea faced and sit thru the visual test... it
helps see losses being made and recoveries happen... our brain also
associates price action and market conditions to losses and dd
periods... we will start seeing price curve to understand and decide
when to stop or start a ea... rather than make the desicion based on
ea's equity curve.... just my 2 cents again

A backtest is a tool used by EA developers to check their trading logic
operates correctly. It cannot tell you anything about the future
performance of an EA.
